TÊTE-À-TÊTE WITH CLAIRE MARTIN

Claire:
"I am a Virgo and TERRIBLY
self-critical."
Q: What success means to you? Success in your career?
CLAIRE: Success is my last gig. Success is trying to be a better
musician and hopefully becoming one. I am a Virgo and TERRIBLY
self-critical so if I can at least be proud of the body of work I have put
out there, then I consider that to be successful, or at the very least,
positive thinking. Q: And success in your life, as
a woman, as a mother, as a wife, as a human being?
CLAIRE: I'm not a wife. I am a good Mother, and consider myself a
good feminist and hard working musician. Socialist, pacifist, feminist,
all these hats I wear. As a woman, I grow every day with my experiences.
Some hard to take, some immensely satisfying. Life's a real journey and
can be a bitch one day and beautiful the
next.
Q: How did you spend the first paycheck you got? Did you spend it all?
Did you save it?
CLAIRE: Can't remember for the life of me. Let's say I spent it all
very quickly though - as I hope I did. I have scant regard for money. Much
to my accountants bemusement.
Q: What is the most precious gift you have ever received in your life?
CLAIRE: Of course, my daughter,
Amelia.
Q: And
what is the most beautiful present Claire Martin gave to a friend?
CLAIRE: Loyalty, love,
laughter.
Q: What is more important
to you, a career success, a global fame or peace of mind?
CLAIRE: Peace of mind. Wins hands down every time.
Q:
What piece of mind is for Claire Martin?
CLAIRE: That those I love are safe and well.
Q:
What do you like most in life, in addition to music? Cars,
fashion, nicely decorated apartment? family? Adventures?
CLAIRE: Yoga, family, travel, red wine, driving in new places,
reading, hanging out at jazz clubs.
Q:
Are you fun?
CLAIRE: Absolutely
YES!!!
Q: So what do you do for fun? What makes Claire Martin happy and
excited?
CLAIRE: I live at the beach here in Brighton, Sussex. I'm happy and
excited every time I look out at the sun on the sea, which is more or less
every day. Excited by gigs
too.
Q: Do you follow fashion,
trendy stuff, a particular diet?
CLAIRE: No. But I am a vegetarian.
Q:
What do you think of entertainers who accord so much importance to their
wardrobes? Artists like Cher, liberace, etc...
CLAIRE: Whatever, of course it's there thing and I can only respect
that as a fellow
artist.
Q: Who are your favorites
writers, poets, authors?
CLAIRE: I love Toni Morrison and Maya Angelou. I love W. H Auden and
Dylon Thomas. I read poetry every day if I
can. Q: The three
favorite books you read in recent years?
CLAIRE: The Nomad: The diaries of Isabelle Eberhardt. Love by Toni
Morrison. I don't know how she does it by Allison Pearson.
Q: What are your favorite countries and cities?
CLAIRE: London, New York and Barcelona.
