CABARET VILLE MAGAZINE. P259. CONT'D FROM P258

AMERICAN DIVA: REBECCA SPENCER. Cont'd.

I know that I remain spontaneous in any live performance as it does keep me  fresh for a long running role in a show and in an intimate setting like a cabaret arena, it does keep me in touch with the audience, and their energy." Asking her what others first notice about her, Rebecca whispered:"  I think people notice in me, my smile and most definitely, my belly laugh."

The world is her oyster...

The world is her oyster. She travels when her heavy schedule allows to do so. She loves London and...during her trips to Britain,  she researches her ancestry as far away as to the Compton Wynattes Castle.  "I never got to go inside though when I traveled there in 1999." Rebecca  admits. Europe is a post card in her palm. She admires the tranquil beauty of the European countryside as well as the vivacious life of the big cities. " I love Paris as I got to go there in the springtime....while I was performing in THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. Hamburg, London, Paris, Athens are her favorite destinations.  And destination is a rendez vous with Rebecca, for when she arrived to Paris on her vacation week, the Parisians were celebrating   the day of Marlene Dietrich at the La Madeleine Square Church.  And what a coincidence! Just look at her photos  and tell me whether you are gazing at the image of an America diva or the magnetising persona of Marlene Dietrich herself!?

On Cinema: I was fortunate enough to exchange brief moments with Ms. Rebecca Spencer. Few questions I asked and a wealth of personal insight Ms. Spencer shed through her answers. On  cinema and films, she told me: "I love films and have become more interested in motion pictures for the past 5 years.  Perhaps because I actually can make the time to see a movie now.  However, I became interested in film writing for the first time years ago, when I read the book REBECCA by DuMaurier which was then made into the Hitchcock film.  Hitchcock to me is brilliant.  I was thrilled at how Hitchcock revealed that movie exactly how I pictured it and remembered it and felt as I read the book.  I was not cheated at all.  and nor was the suspense and storytelling of DuMaurier.  I love the historical value of when and how GONE WITH THE WIND was made, I love all the politics that surrounded CITIZEN KANE and I so escaped with ENCHANTED APRIL."
